Guidelines for a perfect Red Wine Gift Basket

Designing a wine gift basket is tricky, because in addition to providing the perfect wine bottle for that special someone, you also want to include foods that they can enjoy with their wine. White wines and red wines go well with different kinds of foods, and although everyone has different tastes, generally there is a consensus has to which foods go well with red/white wine. In terms of a wine gift basket, these foods must also be perishable so that they will keep over the several days that is required to ship the gift basket.

Here is a set of guidelines for designing that perfect red wine gift basket:

1. Cheese please! Cheeses (in particular, strong cheeses) go perfect with red wine. French cheeses are also amazing with red wine. Crackers can also be included to compliment both the cheese and wine.

2. From the ocean. All types of seafood go well with red wine -- any good seafood restaurant will have some of the best red wine the world has to offer -- if it doesn't, it probably isn't a very good seafood restaurant. The key, in terms of gift baskets, is to keep this perishable, such as smoked salmon.

3. For the sweet tooth. Believe it or not, chocolate goes really well with red wine and is perfect for any gift basket. What person doesn't like chocolate? This is a *must* when it comes to creating a wine gift basket.

4. Fruits. Any way that fruits or fruit flavouring can be incorporated into the gift basket is a good way to spice up your wine gift basket. Fruit candies or dried fruit work perfectly, especially for the fruit lover on your list.
